I have been able to use Autodesk Maya for both school projects and personal modeling projects. I have also used Maya to create animations (see Pitches > Nine Hundred Miles for more information on the pitch) using keyframes and audio synching.
"Ship and Kraken" simple 3D design, using edited primitives, NURBS surfaces, patterned surfaces, and repeated assets.

Biplane render. Parts were modeled to measured specification in Autodesk Inventor, then imported to Maya for final color, assembly, and rendering.
